Joana is a trainer and consultant in the field of negotiation and conflict management.

Joana is a trainer and consultant in the field of negotiation and conflict management. She has wide international experience and has conducted training courses on various topics, such as gender in negotiations, conflict management, and emotional intelligence. Through her work at Rational Games Inc., she has had the opportunity to teach at prestigious companies and government institutions, such as the German Foreign Ministry, the EU International Telecommunication Union, and the BBC.

She is also a visiting teacher at both Reykjavik University and the University of Iceland. She holds an MBA from Reykjavik University and has also studied Advanced Negotiations and Mediation at Harvard Law School in the USA, as well as Humanitarian Negotiations at Clingendæl, the Netherlands Institute of International Relations. Furthermore, she holds a Master’s in Humanitarian Action and Conflict from Uppsala University in Sweden.

Believing that no matter which part of the world you come from or which industry you are active in, negotiation skills can help you – she aims to change the business and diplomatic world through better negotiations and communication.

Joana is a Portuguese and Icelandic citizen and is fluent in Portuguese, Spanish, English, and Icelandic.

Selected projects

1. Joana has been training people across different countries and industries. She has trained corporate executives, government organizations, MBA students and NGOs. Some of the companies she has taught include the German Foreign Ministry, Xing, the BBC, Mercator Kolleg, Marley Spoon USA, The School of Young Diplomats, and LATO.

2. Joana has served as an expert judge in several International Negotiation Competitions, such as The Negotiation Challenge, the Warsaw Negotiation Rounds, NegotiateUp, and APIIT Law School International Negotiation Competition.

3. As a management consultant, Joana worked for Marel hf., supporting their strategic team on two acquisitions in 2016 and 2019, respectively. Marel is a multi-national food processing company with more than 6000 employees in over 30 countries across six continents.
